Pets, kids and everyday mishaps make it hard to keep carpet clean. So the big question is: How do you treat those nasty spots and stains without blowing your budget on expensive carpet cleaners? You make your own, of course! Learn how to make your own carpet spot treater and steam machine solution, and then whip that carpet back into shape.

Thanks for the recipes. I have been making my own cleaners for years and they work just as well as the commercial prodcuts and cost a lot less.
Vinegar is such a wonder ingredient. I have tried it in the steam cleaner and it works. It is really good for getting rid of odours.
I found a recommendation to use of all things shaving cream, which has worked somewhat also.
I’ve found, of commercial cleaners, the best results from the OXY-Woolite carpet cleaner spray, but haven’t [yet] found a homemade option that lifts the stain out before your eyes, as the commercial one I mention has done.
Will comment back if I can get as miraculous of results as I’m hoping for — thanks for this!!
I have a heavy duty steam cleaner and have used Oxy-Clean. It is better than the store bought solutions. I mixed oxy clean with the hot water on my beige carpet and walla!
