How Often Do You Eat Out?

By October 12, 2007

Follow me on:

I could really go for dinner at my favorite restaurant tonight. A tasty meal without the mess is sounding pretty good to this Mom. But it's not going to happen--not tonight, anyway. Why? Because I have plans to eat out this weekend, and I refuse to exceed my once-a-week limit.

Hardcore? Perhaps, but I've found that eating out once a week (or less) works for my family. It allows us to enjoy an occasional restaurant meal without messing with our budget or our wasitlines. . . but that's just what works for us. How do you incorporate eating out into your budget and life? Weigh in with our poll!

Poll: How Often Do You Eat Out?

1) once a week
2) two to three times a week
3) three or more times a week
4) once a month
5) special occasions only
6) it varies
7) never

Wow, I’m so surprised to see that so many of you eat out a few times a WEEK or even more often. I was one of the very few who said never and it’s truly by choice. I can’t bear to part with money for food I know I can cook better myself at home and would rather have folks over to my house to eat when it comes to socializing. Guess it helps that I work from my home also. So are you guys eating lunch out or what??

Eating out for me does not represent a “can I afford it” or “can I prepare a meal better than someone else” nor any other reason one can think up.

Taking my wife to a quality resturant is a change of atmosphere from eating in our home. Remember, “variety is the spice of life”.

Cindy works from home, cooks from home, and my question is when does she get out and enjoy other situations?

It is lunch that gets me. I try to bring my lunch most of the time, but I usually end up having purchase lunch once or twice a week. On top of that, my fiance and I usually go out for dinner once every week or two.

I am a stay at home mom, sort of, my baby is in college 8 hours away so I guess I am a domestic engineer now. I have to get out of the house sometimes. So for my sanity, hubby and I meet for lunch once or twice a week. It is cheaper to do lunch and we can get the same food.
He works 5 min away and usually comes home for lunch, which has saved us a lot of money over the years. I feel like we are very “thrifty” in so many ways, that we can afford a lunch or two out a week. Plus it gives us a different kind of connection. It is like a date, we are talking to and paying attention to each other when out. At home, it is the TV, dog or whatever other distraction.
