Wall Street Journal Says It's Time to Stockpile
Apparently doling out stock market advice isn't enough to keep the Wall Street Journal busy because it's now doling out super market advice as well. Their recommendation: start stockpiling.
Journal writer, Brett Arends, says that since the food inflation rate is currently higher than the interest rate on short-term investments, it makes sense to park some of your money in your pantry. Do you agree?

Because of the higher food prices, we’ve started keeping a perpetual pantry. I wouldn’t call it stock-piling food, but we buy basics like pasta, oil, beans etc, when they are on sale and if we don’t already have those items in our pantry.
Good idea erindreg. I may start doing that too.
Being frugal is great but it should be backed up by being responsible. Products that are in season and can be frozen (strawberries, etc), staple, non parrishable foods (rice, beans, etc) should be stock-piled. Irresponsible hording tend to defeat the mission. Lets remember to allow ourselves the joy of being frugal and maintaining a decent standard of living.
I have built up a fabulous pantry as a form of emergency fund. We buy non-perishables when we can combine sales and coupons to get items at rock bottom prices. We rotate our stock so nothing gets too old. When my husband lost his job, we were able to nearly eliminate our grocery expenditures by building our meals around our pantry items.
