It's Strawberry Picking Time

Monday May 19, 2008

Get out the canning jars, freezer bags and dehydrators – strawberry season has arrived!

After a weekend of berry picking and processing, I'm ready for another trip to the strawberry patch. Why not find a u-pick farm in your area, and get in on the action? With prices well below what you'll pay at the grocery store ($1.25 a pound here locally), those berries stained hands are certainly worth it.

To freeze–after washing, put them on cookie tray lined with wax paper to individually freeze each without them sticking together. Then transfer to a gallon freezer bag adn you can pull out as many as needed. We cut the frozen berries up and add to oatmeal all winter long. taste great & adds extra fiber

There are no u pick farms in Las Vegas and the berries are too expensive for thos of us on fixed incomes.
