I’m sure most of us prefer to graciously donate it, but when desperate, selling your plasma is a reliable source of cash.

I’ve always found gathering up your old clothes and taking it to a second-hand store always brings in some cash.

This wouldn’t be slightly obvious, would it?

Holding a Garage or yard sale. Setting up at the flea market. Yeah, it is a bit obvious but, I’m always looking for new ways I haven’t thought of yet.

Clean out some closets and sell clothes and items on eBay. You’d be surprised what odd items people are wiling to pay for.

I would hate for people to believe that the ways to raise cash listed above always work. When you need money in a hurry, they take time and you can’t count on receiving cash from your effort. I have taken very nice clothes to a consignment shop (even my wedding dress) and kept checking back one and two weeks later and did not receive a penny or even my clothes back to donate to a charity. They said they donated the items but no further details. Holding a yard sale — been there and done that spending more than 20 hours to pull things together and raised a total of $40. Donated the rest to charity. A better faster way to raise money is to sell your jewelry to a reputable dealer who buys jewelry. Even better – find a temp job through a temp agency. This might also help you find a better job with higher income. eBay is great too – post your items on a Sunday and close your auctions the following Sunday. You will have money in your bank account in a little over a week. Time consuming but great to do at home.

To earn some extra cash, join up a company that does mystery shopping. You window shop, then write reports on your experience and get paid for it!

I’ve participated in focus groups in the past. Good for some quick cash and they may even have food/soda available. You can google or use craig’s list to see if there are any in your area. Most will require you to travel to their offices which may have its own expenses but it can also help you make sure they are legit. There are some that say you can take surveys or particiapte on-line but I’ve never used them.

I have been Mystery Shopping and that has worked out very well, we usually eat at a nice restaurant for free. I have also tried the on-line surveys and I wouldn’t waste my time on them ever again. I had so many things sent to me and billed to me that I didnot order. It was a real hassel. I have started a cake business on the side and that has proven the most profitable!

To the mystery shoppers: Can you list the ones you work for, when I have looked into this in the past they always want money first, Is there any that don’t? You can always go on eBay to a category called “Want it now”. It’s people looking for certain specific items to buy you may have lying around and can sell in an instant.

We looked around and decided to sell our nice, but seldom used (plans changed) bunk bed (downsized) and my daughter’s flute from high school. Ran a free online local ad and sold both within 2 weeks. Several hundred $$$!!

If you’re looking for quick cash, I suggest checking out the help wanted ads for your local community college or university. I have noticed that when temp agencies are looking for people for very short term assignments (a day or so) they post ads on there. I once saw a help wanted ad for “mock jury” members paying $12-15 an hour.

I sell stuff I don’t need/want anymore on ebay and half.com (for books/music), have a yard sale once a year, write articles for my local newspaper as a freelancer, and cat-sit for friends when they go on vacation. Every little bit helps!

Ive been reading these stupid blogs for about an hour. And all these, get a second job, sell on ebay bla bla bla. Well that just isnt helpful. I am a college student. i have a full time, and a second part time job. i dont have cable TV, i dont go crazy shopping and charge it on a credit card. However, i do have to pay for my cell phone, a small car payment, insurance, a gym membership, and a couple others. these things add up, especially when gas is SO high. to make te kind of money i need i would have to work 2 full time jobs and kill myself doing.
thanks but no thanks for the advice

I WOULD ALSO LIKE DIFFERENT IDEADS TO RAISE EXTRA MONEY. I AM A SINGLE MOM WORKING 43 HOURS EACH WEEK AND CANNOT FIND ANY MORE TIME TO WORK A SECOND JOB. 2 TEENAGERS. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE……

(17) Carol says:

Years ago when I was a single mom, I cleaned houses on weekends, mostly for realtors who were preparing for open houses. I also babysat on weekend evenings since I couldn’t afford to go out anyway. The benefit of these “side jobs” is that I didn’t need to pay childcare for my children. Anopther plus is that they saw me work 2 or more jobs and go to college-both are grofwn and have excellent work ethics.
These dats I don’t have to work 2 jobs but am always looking for a few extra dolalrs for Xmas, vacation and etc. I haven’t been successful at finding a mystery shopping gig that doesn’t charge a fee but I do surveys online-not the ones that require “trial offers” but those that legitimately want opinions (surveywatchdog.com) is a good place to find ratings on legitimate survey sites. I don’t make much from these but can do them in my spare time and occasionally receive free products to evaluate.

I joined a fun and easy program that pays weekly and monthly and it only took $7.00 to start. If you are a looking for a way to make a nice residual income, you may want to check it out too.

A great way to make some extra cash that no one has mentioned is by selling your books. One thing that almost everyone has in their home are books. There is a website, http://www.bookjingle.com , that purchases your used. They make an instant offer on your books and even give you a label to ship the books to them for free. Payment is sent quickly after the books received, usually less than 2 days. My experience has shown that they offer more than used bookstores and definitely more than a yard sale. You won’t get rich but you will make some extra cash!
