Recipes that Use a Lot of Pears
I don't know if it's just a local phenomenon, but every pear tree that I've seen this year is absolutely bursting with fruit; and being the frugal girl that I am, I've been busy picking and processing away. (The picture at right shows about 150 of the 300+ pears that we've gotten so far.)
So, what do you do with that many pears? You make pear butter, pear jam and pear sauce. Then, you take a deep breath, and do it again.
Have a good recipe that uses pears? Then, be sure to share it.

Have you ever tried fresh pears, sliced, accompanying chocolate shortbread? Divine!
Isn’t it nice to know that you can do divine and still be frugal?!
I found this site just by accident, and cannot resist leaving an imprint in form of a traditional Swedish pear recipe.
Peel 10 pears. Boil 5 deciliter lingonberry jam and 2.5 deciliter of water. Strain this through a sieve and add sugar to taste. Put the pears in the juice and boil slowly for about 20 minutes (or until the pears are soft). Let it cool.
Mix about 1 litre of vanilla icecream with one tablespoon of ground cinnamon and refreeze it for a while.
Serve pears and ice cream together and pour some of the juice over it.
Variation: Replace the lingonberry jam with 3-4 deciliters of red wine.
We got a bunch of pears from my sister-in-laws tree and I made several things of baby food and also pear bread, which was amazingly easy and delicious.
Here’s a link for the recipe.
