Have a long skirt? Since they are out of style, take it to cleaners and have it shortened to the knee or just above.

LONG SIRTS AND LONG DRESSES ARE IN STYLE NOW, HERE IN MIAMI . I WOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT SHORTENING A LONG SKIRT NOW.

Instead of cutting down a long skirt (and risking having it go out of style later) simply fold the hem an extra time and use that lacy hem tape so the extra hem bulk doesn’t show up in the skirt. If it’s a -really- long ankle-length skirt, cut it so it make a below-the-knee skirt with a narrow hem first before folding it up further to make a above-the knee skirt to avoid excess bulk.

By the same token, there’s usually 2-3″ of extra fabric folded up into an average short hemmed skirt that can be let down and folded over with wide hem take to turn a short skirt into a longer one. Just be sure to sturdily stitch the hem tape to the unfinished skirt edge before hemming it up so the fabric doesn’t ravel.

Maybe we should just banish all NYC/Paris/Milan fashionistas who make up these silly rules and wear whatever length we like?
