Harry Potter and the Half-Price Tickets
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theatres tonight at 12:01 am. If you'd love to go, but don't want to fork over $8.50 (or more) for a seat, I've got a great suggestion for you: head to a drive-in theatre.
At my local drive-in, adults are $6, kid ages 5-12 are $3 and kids 4 and under are free. So, that's $15 if my family watches Harry Potter at the drive-in or $30 if we watch it at the theatre. Would you like to guess where we'll be?

unfortunately, the nearest drive-in theatre in my state is 4 hours away.
Our nearest drive-in is in the next state. They’re about as rare as they come.
We purchase discounted tickets through Costco. Saves us a few bucks per ticket.
Sorry to have seen so many of the iconic drive-in theaters fall by the wayside! It was an inexpensive way to take a family to the movies .. and lots of fun, too! Of course, I remember the times it was a nice date place, too. And remember many times there were some going-ons that were, ahem, a bit cheezy to list here … LOL But I wish they would bring them back.
Going to the movies on Sat. morning for the the price of $6.00.
If you go to a matinee you could save a dollar or two per person. That’s the earlier showing.
Luckily for us we have a drive-in up the road from us on SR39 here in Indiana and have actually planned to take in Harry Potter this weekend. It’s also a double feature with Harry Potter first and My Sister’s Keeper second so we get two movies for the carload price of $18. Throw in a $1 box of Good N Plenty and Ju Ju Fruits from Wal-Mart and you’ve got a pretty inexpensive night out for the family.
We have a drive in(4 screens) a few miles away. Tuesday & Wed. are bargain night but Harry Potter is still the 8.00 price tonight- not the 5.00 charged for the other movies. Bummer for us. We will try to catch it next week when it has made its way to to screen 2
If you are a “Senior” (sometimes you can qualify at age 55), you may find discounts at a theater in your area. A theater in my area has $4 tickets for Seniors on Wednesdays.
We are in South Africa and movies here are pretty expensive too. We are puschasing our movie tickets through a rewards programme called Ebucks which runs through our bank – so we essentially will get our tickets for nothing using our rewards points and we make our own popcorn and take along some snacks – an almost free outing! Yah!
were planning to see harry potter at a cinemark tinseltown theater we usually go the matinee showings which is $4.00 for everyone some tinseltown theaters have a early bird special for the first showing which they charge $3.50 for everyone
My suggestion is that my local AMC theater has a policy of all shows before noon are $5.00 on Saturday and Sunday. We will be seeing Harry Potter tomorrow 7/18 at the 11:00 a.m. showing. The local drive in is in a bad neighborhood about 40 minutes away from my home, not interested in going.
drive in are horrible, It was fun when I was 6. pay the price for an occasional movie , but ignore most of them as well s ignoring sports events. if we all did this for say 3 years, they would lower the price to see movies and games.
With the destruction of the American economy by the Bush Chaney assault team,(we have 20 trillion in debt, to the Chinese, something that will take 3 generations to pay off).
We could have spent the money to say provide univeral medical care or rebuild America, but no it was far wiser to toss the money to Haliburton et al and the Chinese, Saudi and Japanese , all of whom hate us all.
just a thought
We have a local theater that was built back in the 30’s by our town benefactress, Mary Hawley, who left many wonderful things for our town and future generations to enjoy. The theater was built into our town hall and movies use to be only a 1.00 per person but now they are 2.00 dollars. Still a bargain. Most movies take about two months after release to appear at the theater but it’s worth the wait. We also save on snacks because I have a child with food allergies so we have to bring our own which is a huge savings.
