Honey is a great ingredient, but it's not one of the most affordable. If you're looking for a cheap honey substitute, this recipe's for you:

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Total Time: 3 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Preparation:

1. Dump the granulated sugar and water into a bowl, and stir until well combined.

2. Then, replace the honey in the recipe with an equal amount of honey substitute.

I have been baking at home for years and never realized you could sub in sugar like this in a pinch if you run out of honey! I used it in a bread recipe and it came out just fine. This recipe gives the perfect proportions to substitute without making your final recipe too dry (honey adds moisture, not just sweetness). To the reviewer who hated this substitute because it's not sugar-free, well, it's not meant to be, just a frugal or emergency substitute in recipes calling for honey. Diabetics should be cautious with both honey and sugar, and substitute artificial sweeteners if they have to.
