This Frugal Thing Really Works

Friday January 25, 2008

Every so often you come across a story that reminds you of just how much you can accomplish by being frugal. Today, CNNMoney has just such a story. It profiles a couple that managed to retire at 40. They weren't rich. They didn't receive a sudden windfall. They just skrimped and saved until they reached their goal. Take it as proof that this frugal thing really works.

What have you achieved by being frugal? Wow us with your story.

I’m very proud of my frugal-ness. It’s a challenge , but worth it. Here I go, I’m 44 single mom of a 13 year old son. my income is around 30k. I just paid off my house, I have no car payment,(it is 9 years old), I”ve taken my son to disney world 3 times in the last 4 years. we go to cedar point each october for a day (it is a amusement park in ohio) he saved for a playstation 3 for a year, very proud day for him. I do have a emergency fund, a savings for his senior year, a 401k for me , we really want for nothing, we are content with what we have. which is used furniture, no dish washer, homemade laundry soap, I split wood to heat my home, we hang laundry up to dry , he does the laundry, and I freeze every bit of food, and cook by scratch, and work over 40 hours a week. all with out a man. yes I get tired, but being frugal lets us live nicer than some people who make more $. I do feel blessed everyday.
