Nearly 30 years ago I made frugal rookie mistake. I was heating the house by wood stove. I loaded the fire box up and turned the damper back so it would burn slow. After all it lasted most of the night, when I did this and money was more than tight. Well, I worked a bit longer than planned, appreciating the little extra I would make in over time. I returned home and while the inside of the house was cold it wasn’t unbearable. But the outside walls where the bathroom plumbing ran were below freezing. I had a mess from broken pipes and my frugal savings and overtime went down the drain when I got the bill for repairs. I learned a lot from that experience.
