Jan from South Carolina
Your Favorite Source for Bargains:
Goodwill, yard sales, the Dollar Store, and friends
Your Best Bargain of All Times:
I make and sell children's clothing, so I am always looking for some great fabric at reasonable prices. A local fabric supplier donated bolts of fabric to our local fund raising event. What didn't sell I was able to take home. I ended up with five bolts (15 yards on each bolt) of brand
new, still-wrappped-in-plastic fabric.
Your Best Money-Saving Tips:
- Never buy anything unless it is on sale
- Make your own cleaning supplies, snacks and drinks
- Plant a garden
- Install rain barrels
- compost
- Sell any good-condition clothing that you don't wear to consigment stores
- Barter (or trade) with neighbors for services
The Worst Money-Saving Advice You've Ever Received:
Don't bother with coupons, consigning, or recycling. It isn't worth
it.
The Craziest Thing You Do to Save Money:
I lived in Connecticut for a long time, so I would recycle all my aluminum
cans and glass bottles for money. I even went so far as to collect them
from where I worked for extra cash. I made $2000 that summer. SWEET!
What You're Doing Now to Save:
We don't spend any of our change. We have two identical jars: one for silver, the other for pennies. The last time the penny jar was full, we
rolled $170.
