Name:
Nancy from Massachusetts
Your Favorite Source for Bargains:
My garden (I grow my own vegtables from seeds). The Salvation Army for clothes; and the Internet for offers like free restaurant appetizers (perfect for those occasional splurges).
Your Best Bargain of All Times:
I bought a box at an auction for $14.00. It was a 'box' auction, and all the bidders could see is what the auctioneer's helper pulled from the box. I liked what looked like a blanket; and thought, "Since it's nice, there are probably other nice things in the box." I was right. There was $1,400 in Euros tucked inside a wallet, among other things. I sold one item – a wooden statue – at the next auction for $14.00. I still have the sheep skin throw.
Your Best Money-Saving Tips:
  • Get a one-gallon flush toilet and energy-saving bulbs
  • Put everything electric on a power strip, and switch them off when not in use
  • Turn down the temperature on the hot water heater
  • Use the 'throw away' sink water to water outdoor plants
The Worst Money-Saving Advice You've Ever Received:
to buy stocks
The Craziest Thing You Do to Save Money:
I raise worms to eat my food scraps, and use the worm castings to grow food.
What You're Doing Now to Save:
I just changed my cell phone service, so that I only pay for what I use. I'm using solar energy to dry clothes and light my house during the day, and I'm catching rain in a barrel to water my garden – water is expensive!
